We are home to one of the world’s leading specialist spine units We use the latest and most advanced technology for our Spinal Treatments. UK’s Top Spinal laser technology, where a focal concentration of laser energy to target and vaporise protruding or bulging disc material without any danger of damaging surrounding vital structures like nerves or blood vessels.
Avoiding Lumbar Fusion using Dynamic Stabilisation techniques such as flexible rods and Cushions. Undertaking major Spinal surgery using Keyhole Surgery as a DayCase Procedure without General Anaesthetic. That means quicker recovery and less pain. We are Pioneers in the field of Spinal Surgery.
We use the latest development in medical laser technology, where a focal concentration of laser energy to target and vaporise protruding or bulging disc material without any danger of damaging surrounding vital structures like nerves or blood vessels.
Oxygen-ozone therapy is a useful treatment for lumbar disc herniation that has failed to respond to conservative management. Noninvasive procedures, minimally invasive percutaneous injection, and surgery represent the gamut of treatments available in the management of lumbar disc herniation.
We may use Adipose Derived Progenitor Cells in your body that are powerful, universal repair cells hidden throughout the body. In the last 10 years, medical research have discovered ever more accessible ways to harvest and enrich these natural healing cells throughout the body. These can be injected into areas to promote repair of damaged discs, muscles and joints.
We will do an evaluation and determine if there are any joint limitations or muscle weakness, as well as pinpoint the pain distribution in your back. Heat/cold therapy and massage, as well as ultrasound, may be used to ease back pain, but we can also combine these with physical therapy, manipulation and deep tissue massage to heal pain.
We are the only spinal centre in the world where over 95% of our operations are performed as an outpatient procedure. this includes Lumbar Fusion and Disc Replacement Surgery. Our specialist anaesthetic techniques are revolutionary and aim to bring faster recovery and less pain.
We have extensive experience in spinal techniques that avoid spinal fusion. In cases many cases where others have advised lumbar fusion we are able to find successful alternatives that maintain motion and prevent adjacent level disc disease. Dynamic stabilisation techniques allow the spine to remain mobile and flexible. Using Disc replacement, Interspinous spacer devices and Flexible rods means that your spine avoids the problems associated with lumbar fusion and allows rapid recovery.
Balloon Kyphoplasty is a safe and quick percutaneous procedure that rapidly ease the suffering from these fractures or breaks. Through a tiny cut in the skin, a balloon is threaded through the bone under X-ray guidance, and inflated to restore the height of the collapsed bone segment. Special bone cement, similar to those used in hip/knee replacement surgery is then carefully injected to fill up the space.
With artificial disc replacement, the procedure is designed to bring about pain relief by removing the painful disc, and motion at that spinal segment is maintained with the use of a prosthetic implant. This is more similar in theory to the artificial hip and knee joint surgeries that orthopedic surgeons have been using for more that 40 years to maintain motion and relieve the pain of arthritic joints.
The traditional approach to treating pain and/or disability from lumbar degenerative disc disease is spinal fusion. This surgery involves forming a direct bony connection between the vertebrae surrounding the painful disc(s); pain relief occurs by stopping the motion of the painful disc(s). The London Spine Unit uses minimally Invasive Surgery for Fusion when required.
We are one of the few centres in the world that have the latest imaging technology which is far superior than MRI scans or CT scans for assessing spinal posture in 3D. The EOS machine has one tenth of the radiation dose of XRAY and CT scans. It is able to scan the entire skeleton in 10 seconds and gives images that are far superior to other machines in posture analysis and spinal deformity. We can assess imbalance and correct your spine by making adjustments to you spine muscles and posture.
Dynamic stabilisation uses flexible materials (constructs) to stabilise the affected level or levels without transmitting excessive forces. The flexible portion of the construct limits excessive motion while allowing a degree of mobility. Dynamic stabilisation also reduces the load on the spine’s joints (facets) and disc space, which may reduce pain.
We thread a small camera through a natural opening in the base of the spine directly to disc extrusion within the spinal canal.By exploiting the body’s natural openings and channels, we do not need to strip off any muscle or bone to access the spinal canal, save a small cut in the skin. The camera allows us to directly visualise the nerves and disc fragments and compressive lesions can then be vaporised either by laser or physically extracted- treatment.
