Mr Mo Akmal MD is Lead Spinal Surgeon at the London Spine Unit, in the prestigious Harley Street Hospital. He is a a consultant at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
Graduated from St Marys Medical School in 1992. After that, he finished surgical training and doctorate in Medicine (MD) in London.
Orthopaedic training on rotation comprised 3 years at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, 3 years at The Royal London Hospital, 1 year at University College Hospital and 1 year in Oxford for specialist spinal surgery fellowship training.
Mr Akmal´s clinical interests are spinal trauma, degenerative spinal diseases, minimally invasive spine surgery, laser discectomy, spinal injections, kyphoplasty, disc replacement, spine reconstruction, spine tumours and spine infections.
Mr Mo Akmal obtained worldwide recognition due to his great experience in managing spinal trauma. As a result, Mr Akmal is a second opinion specialist for several insurance companies.
One of the London´s most popular and extensively read newspapers “The Evening Standard” recently highlighted Mr Akmal’s pioneering work.
He has a firm compromise to Education and Training. He also executes a fellowship program for higher surgical trainees. Therefore, he is an examiner for the final MBBS exams at Imperial College.
Moreover, Mr Akmal is one of the main voices in the promotion of osteoporotic fracture prevention. He is a board member of The international Society for Fracture Repair, and is strongly commited in an educational campaign for the early treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures.
