Summary
The function of isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) mutation in mind stem glioma is just not clear. To one of the best of our data, six instances of mind stem gliomas carrying IDH1/2 mutations are at present reported within the literature. One case of diffuse mind stem glioma with IDH1 mutation, which was adopted for two years, is introduced and in contrast with IDH1 destructive tumors. A 22-year-old girl was referred with diplopia and left arm palsy. Neuroimaging detected a nonenhancing, nonhomogeneous diffuse infiltrating mind stem tumor extending from pons to medulla. Microsurgical debulking was carried out. Microscopic analysis of the tissue specimen and immunohistochemistry revealed an astrocytoma WHO Grade II with proliferation charge of three% and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)-positive tumor cells. Apparently, the tumor cells expressed mutated IDH1 R132H protein. The affected person underwent adjuvant radiation and chemotherapy. The first and a couple of years’ scientific/radiological traits didn’t point out any vital distinction from different instances with out IDH1 mutation. the prognostic worth of IDH1/2 mutation in mind stem glioma is unclear. Mind stem biopsies could enable willpower of a tissue-based tumor prognosis for additional investigations.
