Summary
Spontaneous dissection of a vertebral artery is rare, however probably dangerous and initially simply misdiagnosed as abnormal headache, neck ache or dizziness. The situation might progress with infarctions within the brainstem and cerebellar areas and ataxia, nystagmus, Horner syndrome, dysarthria, cranial nerve palsy or hemiparesis. We report an initially misdiagnosed case and remind in regards to the medical clues which result in an accurate analysis: younger age, no danger components for thromboembolism, the standard medical findings and the presence of neck ache.
