Summary
We describe the distinctive case of a 51-year-old girl who developed a contralateral lumbosacral plexopathy two days after a lumbar microdiscectomy. That is the primary report back to date of this complication occurring following this process. We overview the literature concerning lumbosacral plexopathy and focus on the proof base behind investigating and managing this situation and the potential pathophysiological mechanisms which underlie its growth. We draw comparisons with the extra extensively recognised post-operative brachial neuritis, characterised by delayed onset brachial plexopathy creating after cervical decompression, and suggest an immune-mediated inflammatory mechanism linking the 2 circumstances.
